πŸ€” What is AI

AI

AI is how we teach computers to solve problems, and mimic human intelligence.

AI learns in in 2 main steps, learning and inference. Learning is when we use math to teach a computer how our world works. Inference is when we give the AI a task and it infers an answer.

AI's core ability is pattern recognition in large sets of data. This pattern recognition lets us build generalized solutions across different problems.

We use AI solutions, because computers have strong memories and can tap into that memory without any loss. Computers need a lot of high quality data and computational power to be effective.

Data is AI's biggest bottleneck. Most data is private, and often of low quality. We need experts to understand data, and manage the bias that comes about through our data collection.

You shouldn't do boring repetitive stuff. It creates errors, and aren't the skills that humans are inherently good at... learning, dealing with other people and creating strategies.

We need experts to understand data, manage bias, and masterfully conduct the use of AI tools. In the art space, we see that experts. People are able to craft wonderful pieces of work, using AI tools. Below are a few examples from the MidJourney showcase.

Why should I care?

You shouldn't do boring repetitive stuff. It creates errors, and aren't the skills that humans are inherently good at... namely learning and strategizing.

You should get help from AI with mundane tasks; like writing emails, creating reports, or even programming. Provided you can give the right AI clear instructions, this is all possible.

How do I start

First, finish this chapter and gain a high level understanding of how AI works. Make sure you undertand the basics before beginning to use this!

Then go to the Talk to AI section. Here, you'll learn the basics of using AI systems. You'll be able to work with most of the tools, without any technical background.

If you like language, look at Chat GPT and how it works. This is the friendliest version of AI. It will give you fluid answers, that make sense. It's fun to use and will show you what basic AI can do.

If you're more of a visual person, take a look at MidJourney. MidJourney creates highly stylized art, and can be a great way to get starte generating with AI.

tip

It's important to know that you don't need any previous experience in technology to learn how to use AI. Most of it is experimenting and you'll learn as you go.

AI requirements

AI guzzles two things; data and computing power. GPT-3, OpenAI's language model, used around 500 billion tokens and 285,000 CPU cores, 10,000 GPUs and 400 gigabits per second of network connectivity for each GPU server. That puts it among the top 5 largest super computers in the world.

Some AI tools

Chat GPT

Chat GPT is an OpenAI product, that lets the user communicate with AI using a chat interface. It uses a Chat interface to allow humans to communicate with AI. Chat GPT is amazing at creating human like conversations. As we go over inΒ Limitations and Risks, it can provide false information.

tip

Be specific with your asks

The systems do much better when they know exactly how they can best deliver their answer. Head to the Master Writing Prompts section, there you can learn how to communicate more effectively with AI, and to the Chat-GPT section for more ideas.

MidJourney

MidJourney is an AI art generator, which uses text descriptions to create new images. There is no web app, it exists only on Discord. MidJourney has a free tier, which is awesome to get started. Unlike other Text to Image models, it produces stylized images out of the box. This makes it a fantastic resource for creative projects that use AI.

Experiment with your prompts.

The more you refine your prompt the easier it will become to reliably get the outputs you want. Jump ahead to the MidJourney section, if you want to get started
